This half-day session provides an in-depth, practical understanding of agreements under section 173 of the Planning and Environment Act 1987. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the legislative framework governing these agreements, when and how they should be used, and how they differ from other planning instruments.
Through real examples and case-based discussion, the session will demonstrate how to draft sound permit conditions that require a section 173 agreement, how to interpret existing agreements, and how to manage their amendment or ending. Attendees will also learn to distinguish between providing consent under an agreement and granting a permit – a distinction critical to avoiding procedural errors.
Led by lawyers from Planology with decades of legal experience, this course will turn complex statutory requirements into clear, actionable guidance that planners can apply immediately in their daily work.
