Event Outline 

This half-day course is for non-planners and those new to QLD Planning System, designed to provide an overview of planning and the Queensland planning system.

It will cover the fundamental outcomes of an effective planning system, the role of and interrelationships between strategic planning and development assessment, key concepts, language and components underpinning the Queensland planning system, and how to navigate it.

The programme covers the following topics:

• What is planning and why we do it;
• The Queensland planning system from front to back;
• Development assessment overview; and
• Navigating QLD planning documents.

Designed For

People who need to understand more about the planning and development framework in Queensland, including those new to Queensland, non planning professionals or support officers, councillors, community groups, planning students and new graduates.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, attendees will be able to:

• be aware of the decision making framework for planning and development in Queensland;
• recognise the language of planning used in Queensland; and
• participate more effectively in planning and development processes.

Presenter:

Jenny Roughan MPIA (Life Fellow) - Principal, RoughPlan Jenny Roughan is the principal of Rough Plan and has over 35 years of experience practising as a planner. She has managed a range of planning and development projects for clients in both the private and public sectors. She has extensive experience in development assessment and as an expert witness in Planning and Environment Court appeals, as well as in strategic planning, policy development and planning scheme drafting. Jenny was appointed a Life Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia in 2021 in recognition of her extensive and varied contribution to the planning profession.
