This national course is designed for professionals in all locations.
With new information and updated format, this course is designed to provide an overview into the many facets of Strategic Planning and how to participate in its processes in an effective way. It will cover the fundamentals, whilst providing valuable insights and tips in effective practices along the way.
The half-day programme covers the following topics:
1. Definition
- What is strategic planning?
- What does a strategic planner do?
2.Fundamentals
- Overview of the skills and characteristics of an effective strategic planner
- Overview of some of the non-planning fundamentals and inputs essential for effective strategic planning
3.Emerging Practice
- Overview of new, and emerging skills and attributes to consider skilling up on.
- Exploration of leading practice technologies, tools and collaborations
Designed For
This half-day programme is designed for planners, allied professionals and others involved (or thinking about getting involved) in strategic planning.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course:
- Attendees will have a well-rounded understanding of strategic planning and what’s involved with being a part of the process.
- Non-strategic planners will gain insight into the role and some of the skills required
- For those practicing, it will provide a focused insight on priority skills the evolving practice.
The course has drawn on feedback and insights from the private and public sector practicing professionals and for some components of the session will offer the opportunity for participants to meet and hear from some of these contributing representatives.

Amanda is a Planning Director at Place Design Group. Specialising in strategic and complex projects Amanda has a diverse range of experience across the private and public sector. This depth offers participants the opportunity to gain a range of insights into strategic planning and how it might be applied in a range of practical environments. Evolving and advancing the technical practice of planning and design is a particular area of interest for Amanda and with the team at Place she is pioneering ways to test and apply new approaches, technology, data sources, and analysis methods to offer a contemporary and evidence-based practice to projects and their outcomes.
